Home Remedies with Poppy Seeds (Khus Khus)

Poppy seeds, also known as Khus Khus, are packed with essential nutrients, medicinal properties, and health benefits. Widely used in Ayurveda, poppy seeds support digestion, heart health, diabetes management, bone strength, fertility, and more. With rich amounts of fiber, healthy fats, and minerals, they make an excellent natural remedy for several health conditions.

  • Adding a small amount of poppy seed (Khus Khus) powder to regular flour enhances its nutritional value and provides multiple health benefits.

  • Mix poppy seeds with rock salt in warm water and consume once a day. This improves digestion, boosts appetite, and reduces stomach discomfort.

  • Poppy seeds act as a natural anti-diarrheal food. They reduce intestinal inflammation and control frequent bowel movements. For severe conditions, take poppy seeds with nutmeg and milk cream twice daily.

  • Rich in dietary fiber, poppy seeds help regulate blood sugar and keep you full for longer. A mixture of poppy seed powder with turmeric, amla, and honey in the morning is highly beneficial for diabetic patients.

  • Loaded with oleic acid, poppy seeds lower blood pressure and protect against heart diseases. A mix of poppy seeds, ajwain seeds, and 1 teaspoon of cow ghee supports cardiovascular health naturally.

  • Thanks to their potassium and diuretic properties, poppy seeds are effective for kidney-related issues. Drinking sugarcane juice mixed with poppy seed powder can help maintain kidney health.

  • Poppy seeds naturally induce sleep and calm the mind. At night, take poppy seeds with Pippalimoola (long pepper root) and buffalo milk to relieve insomnia and psychiatric conditions.

  • Poppy seed oil boosts natural estrogen levels and supports female reproductive health. In Ayurveda, Uttar Basti (therapeutic application) with poppy seed oil is considered beneficial.

  • Poppy seeds are rich in manganese, which aids collagen production for bone strength and healing. Mix ½ teaspoon of poppy seed powder with jaggery and consume twice daily for healthy bones.

  • For kids above 2 years, ghee-roasted poppy seeds with jaggery and water promote healthy growth. Give 2-3 teaspoons once a week.

  • Poppy seed paste with milk or milk cream supports nourishment during pregnancy. However, use in moderation (see precautions below).

  • Soak poppy seeds in water for 4-5 hours, then mix with ghee and consume. This soothes stomach disturbances and mouth ulcers.
