How Gas Forms and Gets Trapped in the GI Tract

When we eat, a small amount of air is swallowed along with food. Additionally, bacteria present in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract produce gas as a byproduct of their metabolic activities. This gas can become trapped in the intestines, particularly in cases of constipation or other forms of intestinal blockage.

A high-protein diet can also contribute to gas formation, as protein takes longer to break down and digest.
