Home Remedies for Hiccups

  • Slowly suck on a teaspoon of sugar without chewing it to help stop hiccups.

  • Mix one teaspoon of salt into a cup of yogurt. Stir thoroughly until the salt dissolves completely, then consume the mixture to relieve hiccups.

  • If your hiccups are triggered by eating spicy food, drink a full glass of water to calm them.

  • Boil one and a half cups of water and add a teaspoon of freshly ground cardamom (elaichi). Let it cool, strain the liquid, and drink it to ease hiccups.

  • Gently press your fingers against your ears to close them. This can help block the airway and may stop the hiccups.

  • Chew slowly on a small, peeled piece of fresh ginger (adarak) to help get rid of hiccups.

  • Gargling with water can provide relief from hiccups.

  • Eating a spoonful of peanut butter is another effective remedy for persistent hiccups.

  • Combine half a teaspoon of mustard seeds with half a teaspoon of pure ghee and swallow the mixture to stop hiccups.

  • Inhale deeply and hold your breath for as long as possible. Exhale slowly and repeat this a few times to alleviate hiccups.

  • Raising your left arm and holding it up for a while can also help stop hiccups.
