What is a Headache?

  • A headache is a common symptom that can be associated with various conditions such as migraines, tension headaches, cluster headaches, and trigeminal neuralgia.

  • It can also be temporarily triggered by digestive issues like gastritis or gas buildup.

  • In some cases, headaches may be caused by serious conditions such as brain lesions or problems related to nerve plexuses.

  • Common Symptoms of a Headache

  • Intense pain in the forehead, back of the head, base of the neck, and sometimes the face.

  • May be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

  • Sensitivity or a pricking sensation on one or both sides of the head and face.

  • Home Remedies for Headaches

  • Grind cinnamon sticks into a fine powder, mix with water to make a thick paste, apply it to the forehead, and rest for 30 minutes.

  • Make a paste of dried ginger (adrak) with water and apply it to the head before bedtime.

  • Rub sandalwood (chandan) with water on a clean surface to make a paste. Apply a layer to the forehead, and after it dries, apply another. Repeat 3-4 times, especially effective for heat-induced headaches.

  • Apply ghee to a castor (arandi) leaf and place it on the head.

  • Make a thick paste of betel leaves (paan) with water and apply it to the head.

  • Take 5-10 grams of amla powder mixed with equal parts ghee and sugar twice daily.

  • For cold-related headaches, apply black pepper (kali mirch) paste to the forehead.

  • Crush holy basil (tulsi) leaves into a paste, apply it to the forehead, and leave it on for a while.

  • Rub nutmeg (jayphal) with milk on a clean surface to make a thin paste and apply it to the forehead.

  • Helpful Tips for Managing Headaches

  • Avoid heavy or allergy-triggering foods that may initiate a headache.

  • Refrain from midday naps and staying up late at night.

  • Limit excessive protein intake, as it can trigger headaches.

  • Consult an Ayurvedic physician for nasya therapy tailored to your condition.

  • Opt for green tea instead of regular tea for quicker relief.

  • Steam inhalation can also be beneficial in alleviating headaches.
