What is Gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the improper metabolism of uric acid, leading to joint inflammation, most commonly affecting the feet.

Causes of Gout

  • Overconsumption of meat and seafood.

  • Genetic predisposition (family history).

  • Obesity.

  • Alcohol consumption.

  • Heart or kidney-related diseases


  • Symptoms of Gout

  • Joint pain.

  • Swelling and redness.

  • Warmth in the affected area.

  • Joint stiffness.

  • Affected fingers.

  • Nodules in the fingers, known as tophi.


  • Home Remedies for Gout

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of honey and consume twice daily.

  • Regularly eat cherries or drink cherry juice.

  • Apply ice packs to swollen joints for 10-15 minutes.

  • Dissolve baking soda in water and drink it.

  • Squeeze half a lemon into half a glass of water and drink twice a day.

  • Make and drink juice from carrots, cucumber, and beetroot.

  • Apply a paste made from wheat flour and mustard powder to the affected area.

  • Use a ginger paste on the swollen joints.

  • Prepare a decoction using powdered licorice root and drink twice daily to relieve pain and swelling.

  • Powder dry pipal tree bark (Ficus religiosa), and mix with honey. Take twice a day.

  • Drink Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) juice on an empty stomach in the morning for added benefit.

  • Eat 2 to 3 apples daily.

  • Drink coffee in moderation, as it may help manage gout.

  • Avoid legumes, red meat, eggs, and seafood.
