What Are Freckles?


Freckles are small, flat, round brown spots that can vary in size and appear on the skin. They can occur in both men and women.

Causes of Freckles

  • Genetics.

  • Exposure to sunlight.


  • Home Remedies for Freckles

  • Rub a slice of onion (pyaz) on the affected areas twice daily.

  • Apply buttermilk directly onto the freckles.

  • Make a paste using yellow mustard (sarson) and milk, apply it to your face overnight, and rinse off in the morning.

  • Wash the affected area with sour milk to help exfoliate the skin.

  • Apply a mixture of oatmeal and vinegar, leave it for 20 minutes, then rinse off.

  • Before bedtime, apply castor oil to the freckles, leave it overnight, and wash it off in the morning.

  • Dab fresh lemon juice directly onto the spots.

  • Mix orange (santra) juice, parsley juice, and lemon juice, and apply the blend to the skin.

  • Combine lemon juice with sugar and apply to the freckles, washing off after 15 minutes.

  • Grind equal parts of turmeric (haldi) and sesame (til) seeds with water and apply the paste to the affected areas.

  • Warm a little honey, mix it with wheat germ (gehu), massage it onto the skin, wash first with warm water, and then rinse with cool water.

  • Grate a potato, squeeze out its juice, and apply it to the freckles.

  • Rub aloe vera juice on the affected skin.

  • Prepare a mixture of lemon zest, rose petals, and honey, and apply it for beneficial effects.

  • Mix the bark powder of the Arjuna tree (Terminalia arjuna) with honey and apply it to the freckles.

  • Use the bark powder of the banyan and pipal tree (Ficus religiosa) mixed with fresh milk to reduce spot size and discoloration.

  • Soak licorice root (yastimadhu) in milk overnight, grind it into a paste, and apply it to the skin for visible benefits.

  • Drinking licorice root powder mixed with warm milk on an empty stomach each morning can also help diminish freckles.

  • Apply a mixture of curd and rose petals to the skin for added benefits.


  • Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations for Freckles

  • Incorporate curd, lemon zest, and green leafy vegetables into your diet.

  • Cow ghee can be beneficial both when consumed and applied externally.

  • Create a natural sunscreen by mixing sesame oil with a few drops of mustard oil (sarson oil) and applying it to the skin.
