What is Foot Fungus?

  • Foot fungus is a skin infection caused by a fungus known as tinea pedis.

  • It is commonly referred to as athlete's foot or foot ringworm.

  • Causes of Foot Fungus

  • Frequent exposure to chemically treated or hard water, including detergents.

  • Jobs that require prolonged immersion of the feet in water.

  • Working or walking in stagnant water, such as farming or flooded areas.

  • Having a fungal infection on another part of the body that spreads to the feet.

  • Home Remedies for Foot Fungus

  • Crush garlic and mix it with white vinegar. Apply it to the affected area, cover it with a bandage, and leave it on for a few hours. Repeat daily until the infection clears.

  • Apply lavender oil to the infected toe, leave it on for 10-20 minutes, then rinse. Repeat several times daily.

  • Mix one cup of cornmeal with two quarts of water in a small tub. Soak your feet in the mixture.

  • Boil neem leaves in water for 10 minutes, let it cool, and wash your feet with it twice a day.

  • Make a paste of garlic, mix it with water, and soak the infected foot for 15 minutes. Do this twice daily.

  • Combine one part white vinegar with two parts warm water. Soak your feet for 15 minutes, a couple of times a day.

  • Rub apple cider vinegar directly on the infected areas of the foot.

  • Diet and Hygiene Tips for Managing Foot Fungus

  • Eat light, warm, and freshly prepared meals.

  • Avoid bakery items, dairy products, and junk food.

  • Reduce intake of overly salty, spicy, and fried foods.

  • Maintain hygiene by keeping the patient’s personal items and utensils clean and separate.

  • Wash the affected area with warm, medicated water (such as neem decoction).

  • Apply antifungal powders regularly. In Ayurveda, powders from pipal bark or banyan tree bark are used.
