Causes of Back Pain

  • Back pain is commonly caused by ageing, arthritis, or rheumatic conditions.

  • It can also result from pressure on the spinal cord and surrounding muscles.

  • Sciatic nerve compression is another contributing factor to back pain.

  • Menstruation, accompanied by abdominal cramps, may sometimes trigger back pain.

  • Acute conditions such as heavy lifting, falls, or traumatic injuries can also lead to back pain.

  • Additionally, improper bedding or poor sleeping posture may contribute to discomfort in the back.


  • Symptoms of Back Pain

  • Difficulty in bending forward and backwards.

  • Trouble walking, especially in the morning or after excessive physical activity.

  • Pricking pain even while at rest.

  • Discomfort when bending sideways or moving down.

  • In some cases, difficulty sleeping in certain positions, such as on the right, left, or straight.


  • Home Remedies for Back Pain

  • Steep 1 tablespoon of chamomile flowers in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink 1 to 3 cups daily.

  • Grind equal parts (1 cup each) of poppy seeds (khus khus) and rock sugar. Take 2 teaspoons twice daily with milk.

  • Place 1 cup of uncooked rice in a cloth, heat in the microwave on low for 30-60 seconds, and apply to the back for relief.

  • Boil fresh ginger pieces in a cup of water on low heat for 30 minutes. Let it cool, then mix it with honey and drink.

  • Wrap a few crushed ice cubes in a plastic bag and apply to the painful area.

  • Boil 8–10 basil (tulsi) leaves in a cup of water until reduced by half. Let it cool, add a pinch of salt, and drink twice a day for severe pain.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of honey in warm water and drink.

  • Combine equal parts of cuscus grass and sugar. Take 5 grams twice daily with warm milk.

  • Soak wheat overnight, then mix with half the quantity of cuscus grass and coriander. Boil the mixture with four times the amount of milk until reduced to two-thirds. Consume warm.

  • Gently massage the affected area with castor oil.

  • Apply a blend of garlic and eucalyptus oil to relieve pain.

  • Increase vitamin C intake through a balanced diet to support back health.

  • Soak 15 fenugreek seeds or Chandrashoora (Lepidium sativum) overnight and consume in the morning to reduce inflammation and pain.

  • Avoid sour and salty foods. Instead, take ginger and honey twice a day for relief.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of honey in half a cup of water and drink at night for relief.

  • Cook rice and black gram lentils thoroughly, place them in a cloth pouch, and massage onto oiled skin while warm for pain relief.
