Importance of Dental Health

  • Teeth play a vital role in our overall well-being. They not only help in chewing and tasting food but also aid in speech and contribute to the beauty of our face.

  • Even with proper care, many people still face common dental issues at some point in their lives.

  • However, these problems can often be prevented by adopting a few simple and consistent dental care practices.

  • Do's for Dental Care

  • Brush twice daily once in the morning and once before bed.

  • Fresh twigs from trees like Neem can be used as toothbrushes. Chew one end until it becomes brush-like and gently rub your teeth. Herbal tooth powders are also effective alternatives.

  • Rinse your mouth after eating. Swish water around your mouth 2-3 times after every meal to remove food particles stuck between teeth and prevent decay.

  • Mix a spoonful of honey in a glass of water and drink it in the morning for improved oral health.

  • Chew a clove after meals, which helps strengthen teeth and gums. Chew slowly and let it stay in the mouth for a while.

  • Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice where you hold oil in your mouth for several minutes. It helps prevent cavities, bleeding gums, bad breath, dry throat, and cracked lips. Sesame, sunflower, coconut, or mustard oil can be used.

  • Eat calcium-rich foods like milk, curd, and green vegetables in your diet to keep teeth strong and healthy.

  • Don'ts for Dental Care

  • Refrain from consuming very hot and cold items together, such as hot tea right after ice cream.

  • Do not drink tea before brushing. Always brush your teeth first thing in the morning.

  • Reduce intake of sweets, sugary snacks, baked goods, and junk food.

  • Smoking can severely harm your dental health and lead to several oral problems.
