What is a cough in children?
A cough is a way to keep the throat and airway clear. A cough can be acute, subacute, or chronic. An acute cough lasts less than 3 weeks. A subacute cough lasts 3 to 8 weeks. A chronic cough lasts more than 8 weeks. Cough mainly comes attached to the cold.
Causes of cough in children
In most cases, the infection is in the upper respiratory tract and affects the throat, which leads to acute cough. The most common causes of cough include:
The common cold.
Acute sinusitis.
Allergic rhinitis.
Non-allergic rhinitis.
Home remedies for cough in children
Take licorice root powder(Mulethi) and fry in cow’s ghee, after cooling down the mixture add honey. This mixture has good expectorant activity.
In productive cough take cardamom seed and ajwain powder with hot water.
Take leaves of Vasa (Adhatoda vasica) and take them with a pinch of clove powder and honey to decrease the cough.
Take 2-3 black pepper with khadi Shakar (candy sugar) in productive cough (above 5 years of age).
For whooping cough – take one tennis ball size dough out of rice flour, inner the dough ball stuff pinch of tankan (borax powder) and make ash in cow dung cake. It is very beneficial when taking it 3-4 nights continuously in a pinch with honey.
Take flowers of arka (milkweed) with saindhav (saindha namak) and black pepper, grind them and make tablets of pea-size. It is better to take it with honey or warm water. (Above 5 years of age).
Taking betel leaf with honey is also helpful.
Take borax powder fry on a pan for 5 minutes, it is taken with honey for mucolytic action.
Take a garlic clove, fry it in a pan with oil, and store it. Use this oil to apply to the thorax and neck region to relieve breathing problems.
Give 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Honey (shahad) to children of 2 to 6 years.
